Who can attend?

HALMS is dedicated to preschoolers and children from large families.  Many families who live on the dumpsite have more than seven children and their parents cannot afford to send all of their children to school. 

Many children are forced to leave school in order to support their own families. 

From a very young age, some children have to work in the dumpsite. Children collect tin cans and other rubbish so they can sell them on, the small amount of money they earn helps support the family. 

Generations of families get sucked into this unending cycle of poverty. Some families construct homes from old boards and scavenged materials recovered from the dumpsite.

Education is the key to unlocking this cycle of poverty and provides children and families a way out.
